How seeding works

  1. Each division's winner takes one of the top 2 seeds, whatever their record. The winners are ordered between themselves by the steps below; everyone else follows.
  2. Win percentage, with ties counting as half a win.
  3. Head-to-head wins among the tied teams — but only when every one of them has played the others the same number of times. Otherwise it is skipped rather than rewarding whoever drew the easier fixture.
  4. Points for (higher is better).
  5. Points against (lower is better).

A tie of three or more is settled one seed at a time: the chain picks the top team, then starts again on the teams still level — so a head-to-head result that was a wash across three teams can decide it once there are two. Games ahead/back = (difference in wins + difference in losses) ÷ 2.
